Mayor Sasha is sworn in
Every two years, Fort Woof holds an election for mayor during Barktoberfest. The Fort Woof mayoral candidate who raises the most cash wins! (It’s the only election you can legally buy.)
We had an awesome pack of candidates this year, representing virtually every segment of canine society. In total they raised $3,069.45 to help defray the costs of maintaining Fort Woof in these tough economic times. A big thank you goes out to all who participated in this important election. In a race like this, ALL DOGS WIN!
Wooderson placed third in the election. We can't say enough good things about what Wooderson's dad (Jason “Dog Park” Smith) has done for the dog park, partly because he would make us take the well-earned kind words off this website as soon as he read them.
Sydney came in second place and will serve as Mayor Pro Tem, when needed. Syndey's mom did an incredible job of recruiting for votes at the Barktoberfest event, handing out doggy treats with a note attached advertising the Don't Forget to Feed Me Pet Food Bank and asking recipients to please vote for Syndey. It worked!
The overall winner and new Mayor of Fort Woof is Sasha. Her mom, Shawna “Ironman” Gibson, ran an intense get-out-the-vote campaign starting weeks before Barktoberfest. Shawna provides fitness training (see her website, shagfitness.com) and wasn’t shy about hitting up her clients for donations. OK, let’s be honest. She hit EVERYBODY up for votes, but it really paid off. Sasha brought in $1,069 for Fort Woof. Thank you Shawna and Sasha!!
